Cycle Stands

Cycle Stands or bicycle stands are generally manufactured for security purposes, but can also be used for storage purpose as well. Bicycle stands are usually manufactured from metal, but concrete stands can be found as well. As already mentioned, these stands are usually made for security purposes and will take the form of some type of frame, which is generally fixed into the ground or a wall at the location for which they are required. Bicycles can then be attached or secured to the frame with some form of locking mechanism, and this is usually provided by the user. The locking device is typically of the padlock type, for example a chain and a padlock. There are many different kinds of locking devices, and a good robust and good quality device is necessary for a secure attachment to the cycle stand. Cycle stands can be employed in almost any location due to their design and versatility, and can be found in shopping centres, parks, schools, and many other public places where securing a bicycle is necessary. There are many types of cycle stands for various applications, and these can include:

Wall mounted cycle stand
Heavy duty floor mounted cycle stand
Claw cycle stand
Traditional cycle stand

A person who rides a bicycle is called a cyclist, and a bicycle can be referred to as a human powered vehicle - pedal driven machine which has two wheels fixed to a frame. The wheels are aligned one in front of the other on the frame, and the rear wheel is driven by a cog and chain mechanism, which is powered by human effort by turning the pedals, with the use of the legs.

The overall basic shape of the bicycle has changed very little since 1885, when the first chain driven cycle was developed. With the advance of modern materials such as alloys and metals, many details have been improved, and this has allowed many different designs for cycles with particular uses. The bicycle has played a large part in the development of society, and in some regions of the world they are a major means of transport. They are a popular form of recreation, and cycles have been adapted for many uses such as adult fitness and competitive sports purposes.

There are many types of bicycle available some of which are:

Racing bicycle
Touring bicycle
Childrens bicycle
Mountain bike
Cyclo-cross bike

These bicycles all have very different uses, but whatever type the cycle may be, they all work with exactly the same principle of the first ever chain driven bicycle.

Gas Prices and My Bicycle

With a Family as large as mine is the rise in gas price was felt hard. One car and 4 kids makes for a lot of time on the road. I came to the conclusion that at $80 every 3 days to fill my now aging minivan it was time to supplement my driving.

As I work around 6 miles from my place of employment riding a bike is an option for me. I hopped on the new bike that I had pick and thought 6 miles piece of cake. Finding out that I was no longer in the shape I was at 16, some 15 years ago, i quickly realized that this was going to take some practice. The old saying is true you never really forget how to ride, however your body will hate you for not staying with it. Sadly I only made two and a half mile of my 6 mile journey home before I had to give into the "jello" feeling growing in my legs.

There is another old saying that I must use here and it is "Practice makes perfect". One of the best things that has happened as a result of my new found interest is my whole family is riding together. Not only getting good exercise but family quality time as well. I must admit that seeing my 8 year old zoom past me turn around and have time to come back before I make it to the end of the block has made one thing clear in my head, I will practice and get back to my riding shape once more.

How to Make Potassium Nitrate at Home

How to make potassium nitrate at home with instant cold packs and "sodium-free" salt. "Sodium-free" salt is actually potassium chloride. Instant cold packs contain ammonium nitrate and if the two are mixed potassium nitrate and ammonium chloride are formed in equilibrium. Fortunately potassium nitrate has lower solubility than ammonium chloride at colder temperatures giving us a means of separation. Just mix 40 grams of ammonium nitrate with 100mL of water and stir until dissolved. Filter the mixture directly into 37 grams of potassium chloride. Gently heat until completely dissolved, do not boil. Cool the mixture to 0 Celsius in the freezer or on an ice bath. Filter the crystals and dry them. Now you have potassium nitrate. To test it mix 2 parts potassium nitrate with one part sugar and light it up. It should burn with a purple/pinkish flame.

Antique Courier Bicycles

When bicycles were first introduced they were considered to be a recreational toy. However, retailers and message services quickly realized the value of bicycles as a delivery vehicle. Bikes were quicker than traveling by foot, and less expensive and easier to maneuver than horses were. These qualities made them ideal for delivering packages and important messages in large cities.

The first courier bicycles were used by the Paris Stock Exchange in 1870. However, the American company, Western Union, quickly adopted bicycles into their New York City delivery fleet. Bicycles were gradually added to message delivery and package delivery services in other major cities throughout the world. Today, bikes are still a popular vehicle for in-city package and message delivery services.

If you are interested in buying an antique courier bicycle then you need to know what to look for before you start spending money. The first thing that you will want to look for is an old bike that has a single fixed gear. This is a good sign that the bike was designed for a courier service. Next you will want to look for evidence that the bike was owned by a courier service. Look especially for painted company names, company logo stickers and serial numbers that you can use to authenticate the bike with.

When shopping for an antique courier bike you also want collect the story behind the bike. Sometimes this story can be just as valuable as the bike itself. If you are buying the bike from the original owner or from a family member of the bike's owner, then you need to ask them for the story behind the bike. Ask if there are photos of the bike being used, if there are letters or written information on the bike and if they have any family stories they are willing to share. This information and supplemental materials can add value to the bike if you are able to acquire them.

How Can I Increase My Gas Mileage With At Least 20%?

Do you know the latest gas prices? It's like 4$ a gallon in some areas, but the prices are going up constantly and every day people ask themselves:" How can I increase my gas mileage?" Well if you ask the same question you will find in this article a few solutions to increase gas mileage, some effective, some not so effective, but still they will increase your gas mileage.

Avoid kick-downs on the gas pedal. It's well known that increasing your car speed suddenly the engine will burn more gas and you will have a lower gas mileage. Instead try to increase speed gradually

Get a new air filter because the gas will be used more effectively and your mileage will increase, with 5-10%

Don't carry unnecessary things in the car because it will increase the car's weight and also your gas consumption

Don't brake if you don't have to, because you lose speed and energy and your engine will burn gas to increase speed.

All these easy to use tips can improve your gas mileage with 10-15% but many people use another, very effective method, that involves converting their car to run on water. If you convert your car to run on water you should know that this can improve your gas mileage with at least 50-60% and it only requires some small parts installed to your engine. You can find on the internet guides that show you how to do this yourself because it's safe and can be achieved with less than 150$, including the conversion equipment.

Now, knowing what I know I don't ask myself how can I increase my gas mileage anymore. I advise you to follow the above tips if you want to increase your car's mileage.
